After the sunset..

There is no faulting the imagery, atmosphere or style within this shot. The early morning light is perfect and has been graced with a low drift of mist that gives a great feel to the shot but also an extra level of interest for the eye. What would normally be a spikey some what messy foreground is turned wonderfully in the photos favour with well used aperture blur and a subtle vignette that gives a gloomy feel and great contrast to the more brightly exposed mist, it adds something sinister to a shot mostly filled with whimsy. Aperture blur is something we kind of take for granted but it should be commended when it adds something to the shot.

While the pose is simple from the model it suits the serene nature of the shot and the flash of movement as well as letting a little show in the exposure is again a well judged treat for the eye adding detail as well as ambience. Again in styling she is simple but the background does not call for anything lavish complimented further by her natural beauty rather than someone more pin up styled.

The shots few weaknesses are for me in composition, her placing in the shot odd I feel, not quite at thirds though thankfully not quite centre either. It is hard to tell at first, things feel right but as I took in the photo I realised it was something of a trick of the eye, her direction carrying me away from the left of the shot almost forgetting it was there so it felt as if she was a third of the way in from the left instead. As I take in the rest of the image the placing seems slightly more odd. I think placing her a third in from the left genuinely and sliding the shot around to put the tree in the right would be more favourable. However I understand that I do not know what is a little further left and whether it would obstruct the image.

Those problems however do not take away from a stunning capture of light and a well executed portrait that falls under the indie banner, square it off and it would make for a great cd cover. Lovely work.
